Elaine’s Throw

Elaine’s upcoming birthday prompted this commission from her sister. Elaine was asked about her favourite colours and mentioned an array of blues: turquoise, azure, cobalt, sky…. My mind went to the omnipresent blue hues of Morocco (where I travelled extensively in the 1980s, and lived (in 1997) in the southwestern city of Taroudant). Blue tiled domes in Islamic architecture, blue metal doors in whitewashed buildings, the blue painted rocks at Tafraoute, the Tuareg people of the Sahara with their striking blue clothing, and of course the endless blue skies.

Offsetting such a vibrant colour range with white created a stunning throw, with all the joy of a clear summer day. It was such a favourite that I was reluctant to post it off to its new owner!
