Steve has been a maker in wood for over 40 years. A childhood making model balsa wood aeroplanes and general DIY around the home morphed into an early career making stage and exhibition scenery. Revolving stages, furniture, complete sets for plays, opera and ballet, all manner of things - Steve enjoyed the challenge of bringing a design team’s imaginings to reality. Personal projects have included self-building a number of Eco-homes and workshops. Along with the making of a number of items of furniture for family use.
“I am not currently making anything for sale, as I’m working through a collection of family items that need repair and refurbishment whilst using the time to learn more about what I enjoy.
I’ve also gone back to school and completed a couple of courses to refresh my finer woodworking skills.
Away from the studio I’m building an off-grid woodland hut in the Scottish Highlands. Following the Scottish Hutting ethos and planning guidelines, the hut is made from sustainable materials where possible, e.g. timber pile foundations rather than concrete. It sits lightly within several acres of mixed Scots Pine and regenerating Birch and Oak woodland. My long-term hope is that the woodland will provide a source of raw materials for future projects”.
