Stool & Tea Caddy

Having spent many years using my woodwork skills to make buildings and stage sets, I felt slightly out of my depth when contemplating working on smaller “finer” items. Though I fondly remembered woodwork classes at school, terms such as face side/face edge, winding sticks, marking gauges, all seemed distant memories, with which I felt a need to re-acquaint myself. Whilst away from Tiree for a few months I decided to book a couple of courses at Edinburgh Open Workshop. Over a six-week period I made a stool in Scottish Ash and a small, dovetailed tea caddy in Cherry. Both projects introduced me to new techniques whilst also helping me to realise what skills I already possess, and thus lift my confidence.

EOW is a great resource, as well as offering learning in various craft skills you can also rent a small workspace with access to their machines to create your own things;  see other projects.
