A Wedding Blanket for Vicky & Huw

When Suzi commissioned a wedding blanket for her friends she mentioned a few colour ideas and followed it up with a photo of their living room, in which I could see the tone of the sage, cream and rose colours. For reasons best known to my creative brain (!) I wasn’t keen on mixing the sage and rose together in a weave, and conjured up a pattern whereby rose at one end blended into a pure cream centre, whence sage made an appearance for the ‘other half’. I sourced a deliciously soft yarn (‘Re:treat Chunky Roving’ 100% Bluefaced Kerry Hill wool from West Yorkshire Spinners) that had all three colours in the range.

Roving is the bundle of wool fibre ready for spinning into ‘ply’, but which can be used in its unspun state. As such it is chunky and soft…and difficult to weave, but well worth the effort. In the wet-finishing process it blends almost instantly into an incredibly soft flowing cloth (as the untwisted fibres lock into each other)… and can very easily turn to felt - which I manage to stop short of for this blanket!

From feeling unsure of the colour way, I came to absolutely love this blanket.
